Finding the serial number Parrot Bebop Drone's serial number is located on the battery bed.   In FreeFlight Pro, tap the drone's network name (BebopDrone-xxxxxx) to open its information page. > The serial number is listed near the bottom of the page.   The serial number of the last connected drone is displayed on FreeFlight Pro, On the main page press on the name of the drone. WIFI USE: How to respect regulations and optimize Bebop Drone range Read the original article on Parrot Blog.     Introduction: The range of Bebop Drone depends on the power of WiFi generated by the device (smartphone / tablet). This power depends on several parameters: the type of device and its use regulation indoor/outdoor setting selected channel radio/physical environment In general, it is better to use 2.4GHz WiFi to maximize range. If you want to focus on the quality of streaming video, it is recommended to choose 5GHz WiFi (less interference). The Parrot Bebop Drone software features an optimized algorithm that gives advantage to the piloting reactivity than the video streaming quality. Note that the quality of the streaming video has no influence on the quality of the video “onboard”  recorded by the drone (1080p 30fps). Protocol: To perform these tests, the experimental protocol is as follows: Bebop flies 20 m above ground Fly straightkeep heading camera forward (camera forward) Device held in its optimum position Flight in a neutral radio environment (without disturbance Wifi) Flight till disconnection During these flight test sessions, the quality of the FPV experience varies. For example, you can reach 200m and then the video streaming quality decreases and then arrive around 225 m with a better one. This variation is mainly due to the physical environment around the drone. (Field, trees, buildings …) Results The following table shows the Bebop drone’s range results (estimated or calculated) with a Bebop No. PI040339P14K005079 with the version 1.32. FreeFlight versions used for the different smartphones / tablets are for iOS 3.1.25 and for Android 3.1.28. The tests were conducted December 3rd, 2014.     *Europe includes the following countries : Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Haiti, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom Devices The maximal range reached by the Bebop Drone is highly correlated to the device (see Table above). Note that intrinsic Wifi performances of Bebop enable it to reach 2km with Skycontroller in optimal conditions. To maximize the reach with your device, Wifi antennas for your phone should be oriented to the drone (without obstacles). The position of your hands on it affects the quality of the wireless connection with your drone. Try to hold your device in one direction or the other and vary its inclination.   Skycontroller The Skycontroller * is a device, with a very specific Wi-Fi architecture, designed for the Bebop to maximize its reach. It is not compatible with AR.Drones. Tests conducted by the Skycontroller take into account the quality of the video streaming unlike other devices. The position of the hands on the Skycontroller does not affect the test results. Due to the Wifi regulation, channels at the beginning and end can not reach the maximum power.Here are the best channels with Skycontroller: Channel 6 for 2G4 Channel 44 for 5G band-1 Channel 157 for 5G band-3 The Wifi transmitter of Skycontroller is more powerful in 5 GHz than in 2.4 GHz. The power is limited following the regulations of each country. The maximum power at 2.4 GHz is about 400 mW, it is about 4W at 5 GHz on channel 157. Regulation Each Wifi device must meet the standards of the country in which it is used. This applies to your device and obviously to the Parrot products (in particluar, Bebop and Skycontroller). Each country imposes a maximum power and a set of authorized channels. (See Table below)     To perform the required network settings, go to Settings, and scroll with your finger to the Settings screen Networks Country Settings: By default, the selected setting is AUTO. Bebop Drone scans the surrounding WiFi networks and select the country it detects in the beacon frames, according to the international standard 802.11d.     When you use the Parot Bebop Drone in the US, the regulation restrains the access to the country setting.     For other countries, you can change manually the setting Indoor-Outdoor Wifi standards distinguish Indoor or Outdoor use, especially in the case of the 5GHz band. This configuration affects the number of available channels.     For some areas , the European zone, the 5GHz band (channels 36,40,44 and 48) are limited to Indoor use. They are therefore inaccessible if the Outdoor setting is selected.     If you select Indoor setting. The channels of the 5GHz band become available to the countries of the European zone. Channel selection Notable differences between the networks 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are: The 5GHz network has a shorter range than 2.4 GHz. The devices configured in 2.4 GHz are more affected by interference than those configured as 5 GHz (which uses more bandwidth on a given channel). There are fewer devices supporting 5GHz.   Bebop embeds a channel selection optimization algorithm that will evaluate the best compromise between maximum range and quality of streaming video, while favoring the latter. The channel selection by the algorithm is correlated to the Bebop environment during Bebop boot.     The transmission power of the Bebop is the same at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It is necessary to emit twice the power at 5 GHz to have the same reach than at 2.4 GHz . Ifyou want to focus on the ranfe, configure in Auto 2.4GHz:     The channels are much less congested at 5GHz. The standard for 5GHz Wifi does not extend to the adjacent channels. If you want to focus on streaming video quality, choose the configuration in Auto at 5 GHz.     You can make your setting manually. Select Manual and click on the desired channel in the dropdown list. Reminder: some channels are not available depending on your country and setting Indoor / Outdoor.     Recommendations Here are our recommendations to increase your drone range: Choose your device well and check the way you hold it, in particular the position of your hands, especially when you are at the range limit . Choose the country in which you are in the app. Respect the indoor / outdoor setting. Channel selection : if you are in the middle of many wifi networks, choose the auto -all mode. Otherwise, go auto -2,4 mode. Choose an environment with less physical obstacles as possible wether in front of you or a few meters next to you (tress, fences,..) Choose a place with the least amount of interference (other pilots, networks … ) . Stay at a minimum altitude of 5 meters. Avoid being directly above the drone. If you want to fly high, set a distance of 50m between you and the drone. At the range limit, aim your device to steer the drone and orientate he drone so that you can see its rear feet (camera forward)     The operator should keep the drone in his/her sight.

  Network Name   Change the network name of your Parrot Bebop Drone: Change the Parrot Bebop Drone  name in the Product name field. Reboot the Parrot Bebop Drone . Note: The network name of the Parrot Bebop Drone  can only contain letters, numbers and underscores ("_"). It must not exceed 32 characters in length.   WPA2   Set a password for your Parrot Bebop Drone 's Wi-Fi network.   Location   Select your country.   Wi-Fi band   Connect the Parrot Bebop Drone to the 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band enables you to fly the Parrot Bebop Drone from a greater distance. It is generally more congested than the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band in urban areas. The 5 GHz Wi-Fi band enables you to obtain a better quality connection between the Parrot Bebop Drone and your smartphone for streaming footage. Check your smartphone user guide (or the technical specifications) to see whether it supports connection to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. If it does not, use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band only.   To switch the Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz or 5 Ghz) manually without using the application, hold down the on/off button of the Parrot Bebop Drone for 5 seconds .   Note: The diagram at the bottom of the screen shows the state of the Wi-Fi channels.   Before flying the Parrot Bebop Drone , ensure that you comply with the Wi-Fi frequencies restrictions for the area in which you intend to fly. Certain frequencies may be restricted or forbidden. Selecting the country and activating the outdoor option enable FreeFlight Pro to adapt the available channels according to the legislation of the selected country.   For example, in certain countries using the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band may be prohibited in outdoor mode.   In automatic mode, FreeFlight Pro automatically selects a channel according to the country, the mode (outdoor/indoor), and the Wi-Fi band selected and the congestion of the channels.   If you encounter a problem with the quality level of the Wi-Fi connection: Select Manual mode. Select a non-overloaded channel using the information displayed on the diagram.

You can share flights data using social netowrks and email. To do so, you nee to register on Parrot Cloud : Academy and using a valid internet connection. There is 2 boutons "Send Piloting" / "Share" .     The data sent via email is a json file. Using third party tools like Flight Data Manager permit to process data shared.

Question   How does Return To Home work ?   Answer   Return To Home enables you to tell the Parrot Bebop Drone to fly back to the last take-off position, or  your smartphone/tablet location if the Parrot Bebop Drone is receiving no GPS signal.   When you activate RTH, the software systematically determines which of the following data is available before directing the drone to execute a return flight.   1.  The position of the drone at the moment of take-off, if GPS is connected when RTH is activated.   2.  The position of your controlling device (smartphone/tablet, Skycontroller), if Wi-Fi is connected when RTH is activated.   3.  If there is no GPS connection at take-off, the first available GPS fix after the drone is airborne.   During RTH, the drone will fly at a speed of  24 ft/ 8 m (per sec) and a height of 60 ft/20 m, regardless of the drone's max altitude and speed settings.   *Note: RTH feature cannot be activated if neither your smartphone nor the Parrot Bebop Drone is receiving a GPS signal.   **Note: when in RTH mode, the drone will fly towards its starting point in a straight line; therefore, make sure the flight path is free of obstacles.   ***Note: To locate your position, FreeFlight Pro must have access to your device's location service.     To activate location service:   iOS Settings > FreeFlight Pro > Location service.   Android Settings > Application manager > FreeFlight Pro > Permissions.   For further information, see your device user guide.

  Bebop Drone Tutorial : learn how to edit your RAW/DNG pictures Equipped with a 14 megapixels Fish-eye camera, the   Parrot Bebop Drone   can record videos and take 180° pictures of an outstanding quality for a leisure drone. In this tutorial, we will learn to make better use of the drone photographic capabilities. For this, no need to be an expert in image editing, the techniques demonstrated in this article are accessible to everybody. All you need to start is a Bebop Drone and   Photoshop   or   Lightroom CC.     DNG, the best format to make high quality pictures To start making aerial photography with a Bebop , you must first select “Photo mode” in the application settings. How to activate the RAW (DNG) Photo Mode? 1) Connect your smartphone or tablet to the Bebop Drone and open Freeflight 3 2) On the piloting interface, click on the “Settings” icon 3) Swipe to the left to navigate through the different settings until you see the “Recording Settings” 4) Select the “Photo Mode” and “DNG”   There are 3 photo formats available: –   JPEG:   the JPEG mode takes a screenshot of the video stream at a 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The image quality is slightly degraded because of the video image stabilization that tends to remove sharpness and accentuate edges. In this mode, you can quickly take pictures (shutter delay is very short) that are not distorted and with a light file size. –   JPEG 180°:   the JPEG 180° takes a fish eye shot with a 180° FOV at a 4096×3072 pixels resolution. This mode offers small editing possibilities. –   DNG(RAW) :   This mode takes a raw fish eye photo with a 180° FOV at a 4096×3072 pixels resolution in a DNG format. This mode allows a professional grade editing using softwares like Photoshop or Lightroom. In order to get the best shot possible with your Bebop Drone,   it is highly recommended to use the RAW (DNG) photo mode. Note: In the Photo mode, the video no longer records automatically as you take off. You have to click on the “Record” icon manually in order to start recording. Pictures taken in the   RAW (DNG)   mode takes a bit of time to trigger and being processed. It is recommended waiting at least 4sec before taking another shot.   Edit your pictures like a Pro!   Since the 10/10/2015 update of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, the Bebop’s lens profile has been added to Photoshop and Lightroom CC.   This allows you to easily correct the lens distortion without needing any particular photo editing skills! Do not edit your original DNG pictures directly on Photoshop/Lightroom as the source file may be altered. Always make a copy for editing in a separate folder first.   1) First, make sure that you have the latest version of Photoshop CC / Lightroom CC, you can check the available updates in Adobe Creative Cloud. 2) Then, select the DNG picture you wish to edit and open with Photoshop or Lightroom. 3) A window named “Camera Raw 9.2” will automatically pop up.     4) Head to the “Lens Profile Correction” section. 5) Check the box named “Activate Lens Profile Correction” The Bebop’s Lens profile will automatically be selected in order to correct the distortion 6) If the automatic correction is too important, you can reduce the correction amount by moving the cursor under “Distortion”. In general, a distortion rate of 70% usually gives the best results.     To go further… 7) You can manually adjust the distortion settings in the “Manual” tab of the Lens correction section.     8) Finally, you can go back to the “Basic” section in order to finish your editing by changing all the basic parameters: exposure, contrast, saturation etc… 9) You’re satisfied with your job? Great! You can now click on “Open image”. The edited photo will now be opened and all you have to do is save it!   Congratulations! Before each flight check list   Battery   Make sure the battery housing is intact and the terminal is clean. STOP using/charging the battery IMMEDIATELY if the housing is cracked, punctured, or deformed. Dispose of any used battery in compliance with your local safety regulations.   Charger   Inspect the charger, make sure the housing is intact with no visible damage and the contacts are clean.  STOP using the charger IMMEDIATELY if the housing is cracked, punctured, or deformed. Dispose of any discarded charger in compliance with your local safety regulations.   Propellers   Check the propellers for any visible damage; a bent blade could cause instability in flight, which could result in loss of control (and in turn crash the drone).  In addition, make sure the propellers can still be securely mounted to the drone.   Camera   Check for any visible damage to the lens.  Blemishes on the lens could affect photo and video quality.   Airframe   Check for any structural fatigue or damage to the central cross, make sure the wires connecting the motors and antennas are secured to the airframe.  Remove any dirt or grime that may have accumulated in the motor housings, battery contact, and USB port.   Landing feet   Check for any structural fatigue or damage, make sure the Wi-Fi antennas are secured to the two front feet.   Overall wear and tear   Check the drone for any visible damage. Remove any dirt or grime that may have accumulate between the central cross and the upper body.  STOP using the drone immediately if any wire or electronic component appears damaged (bare wire, warped PCB, etc.)     Storage   Battery Store the battery away from direct sunlight in a cool and dry place where the ambient temperature is below 140°F/60°C.  If you plan on not flying your Bebop 2 after 50 th flight, run the battery to 50% capacity before storing.   Drone Store the drone away from direct sunlight in a cool and dry place.     Maintenance and cleaning   Camera   If necessary, use only designated lens-cleaning material for cleaning to avoid inadvertent damage to the lens.   Airframe   You may use compressed air to remove any dirt or grime that may have accumulated in the motor housings, battery contact, and USB port.  DO NOT use any moistened material for cleaning.   Propellers   Remove propellers from the drone prior to cleaning; use a dampened cloth to wipe down the blades.  Make sure the propellers are completely dry before mounting.
